What will people think?
The better question is… what do YOU really want?
“Some people around you aren’t going to understand your journey. That’s okay – they don’t need to. It’s not for them. It’s okay for you to choose your own happiness.”
That quote is from a movie based on a woman realizing all that she thought she wanted was because she had to follow a “track” and then finding herself once the derailment happens.
I can DEFINITELY relate to that.
Can you?
And then… there’s THIS.
You make plans to get your son’s bedroom finished as much as possible and then HUGE blessings come your way.
I’d say that’s a great sidetrack, wouldn’t you?
Let me explain…
First, since moving in to our new home and yanking out the brand-new carpet, I haven’t done much with any other room because my guy needs a private space.
With that, my bedroom will certainly be the last on the list for sure. Here’s what it looked like a few weeks ago before I figure things out and put “stuff” in its place.
I still have my twin mattress that I’ve been sleeping on the last three years (first few years in my old house closet) More Life Updates HERE.
What will people think if they see this?
I honestly don’t care.
This is my reality, my peace.
It’s blissfully quiet in here and I have room to just be. My favorite spot is sitting at the window where I hope to find the comfiest chair.
In the meantime, I have since cleaned up more and given away or sold more things to only keep what I want in my home.
JUST FOR ME
More on the story behind this clock in my video below.
tick, tick, tick.
And a smile for this table made for just me. {{tears}}
I wrote about Mr. Rothstein in this previous post where I build a coffee table to honor him.
I didn’t know it at the time but found out later he built this little drop-leaf table for me that I was told by my narcissist mother that it wasn’t mine even though I thought it was mine decades ago. So, I gave up.
Then, my sister tells me she has a was given it by our narcissist mother who told her it was mine and sister kept it for many years.
wow.
Thankfully, my sister gave it back to me and I now lovingly look on it remembering that sweet man and remembering my little tea parties I would host on it.
HEART’S WHISPER
In the past, I’ve mentioned over and over how the smallest heart’s whisper is heard by my Heavenly Father. This time is no different.
My little twin mattress I’m thankful for. However, I have been hoping to get a full-size bed.
Something just for me and my desire was for a 12″ mattress.
While I shop and plan to get as much work done this three-day weekend I just had, I have a detour.
A gift.
For the last year or so I’ve wanted to build a platform bed to have the fun of building it as well as making it my own.
At the same time, I want to spend as little as possible because I want to be debt free.
Earlier this week, I see this generic frame for twenty bucks ($20 in Ohio speak).
In order to get it home I have the owner dismantle it and here it sits awaiting a grand makeover.
What’s great is after the new garage frame was built. they left me 18′ long 2″x 6”s that I can use to build a lean-to shed AND a bed.
WOOT!
This woodworking mama is stoked to have “toys”.
Here’s a more recent picture with sweet Loula. (notice the extra chair… more on that in a bit)
LAUGHING SO HARD
Ever laugh so hard you can’t breathe?!
BEST FEELING EVER!!
That’s what happened with that mattress-in-car scenario above.
Literally, never whispered a prayer that I have been hoping to afford and find a 12″ full size mattress to replace my twin mattress.
Then, a few days ago I see this spare bedroom mattress that is 6 months old and basically new still in wrap for $50. I couldn’t believe it!!
My son and I drive over early morning and figure we can SQUEEZE it in or taco-fold it in.
WELL… it was not going to just slip into my seven-seater ride.
After tucking in the bare edge, I climb inside to pull with all my might while Oscar RAMS it like football player!!
I was LAUGHING so hard I can’t breathe and forced to stop.
The car would roll every time he hit it and we would move it maybe two inches at a time.
bwahahaha!!
So, that successful shot above was our proud moment.
What will people think of us?
Determined and fun, I say.
After we get home, we shove it out with my daughter’s help, we heave it up the stairs and… it hits me.

notice I’m wearing the same work clothes as in my video of moving out of my closet time. Funny… always working.
Processing the years of closet sleeping… heartbreak… and thankfulness.
HARD CORE feelings and letting myself be.
SITTING PRETTY
Another desire an unwhispered prayer, was to sell my dining table (I found curbside HERE) set for many reasons. (1) it doesn’t fit my space (2) I no longer need 8 chairs (3) it holds memories I want to not see any longer (4) my daughter tips the chairs incessantly.
The night I got the mattress; I finally find a set of chairs that is what I’m looking for and ask if they have more than one set. The seller does, but only in two different colors – three sets for $60
No problem.
I literally drive back to the same area, just a couple streets over to pick up three sets. They’re new in box, but off a damaged pallet.
I am told that they are missing hardware, which doesn’t scare me, and need assembled.
However, when I get home, I pull out the one set and find one of the seats like this… sigh.
I let the seller know and they offer a refund.
It’s my bad for not checking and I would have taken them anyway knowing I could make a repair.
Disappointing, but part of my world.
So, that night, while kids are gone, I set to making the repair and building the chairs while I’m “resting”. haha.
Within minutes, Ivan is staking his claim. tsk.
While I’m not finished building up the repair (as it takes 24 hours each layer to cure), you can see the progression.

GARAGE UPDATE
What is more, here is what’s happening at my new home garage build. Just before the holiday, they were able to get the wrap and siding on and windows and doors.
happy dance!!
Each day they build, I head out instantly afterward to pull out salvaged materials and bag what is truly trash. I am able to give away my drywall and lumber leftovers from the bedroom build to a young mom wanting to make crafts to sell.
Likewise, another like-minded couple came the next day to take wood and pallets to also build a greenhouse and such on their property.
If I didn’t take the time and just paid $300 for dumpster, it all would have went in there. I even have enough scrap to build storage inside my garage once done.
No waste here and able to bless others.
God is good!
The garage is green, and the house is blue.
What will people think?
Yes, I’ve already been asked several times what’s up.
Well… I explain that in my video above and that’s all I care about.
Then, today (or yesterday as you read this) they are able to backfill the foundation prepping for concrete.
My mud schlepping days are nearly done!
more happy dancing!
ONE MORE GIFT
Last, but definitely not least, I just have to share one more gift my children and I receive.
Many of you in broken home situations where divorce leaves you splitting up holiday time can relate.
As I mention in my intentional celebrating post, I am just happy to have time with all six kids for the day.
We make enchiladas and go on a gloriously sunny day walk to feed the ducks.
While feeding the ducks, they kept alerting to something and flying off and then coming back.
That’s when we say this pair flying overhead.
This majestic pair of bald eagles took our breath away.
What a gift!!
Because we got out and about, we were able to see this and then share what we saw with anyone we encounter who also take delight in the show.
Meanwhile, I’ll be taking a nap on my Nap Queen, reflecting, and being the best me DESPITE “what will people think”.

Well, that was a lot! Congratulations on the new mattress /bed. I sometimes worry about what others think. Too often. Thank you gir hiding to others to help them along in thier journey. That us a gift to take time and patience and not just dump stuff.
God bless!
Deb
Yes! And much to be thankful for. I’m tickled and sleeping well so that’s all that matters. I’m so happy to share as I’ve always asked God that I have enough for what I need and enough to share. Hugs to you!
My thought was that girl deserves a real bed. Nice to see that happening for you and how things are coming together. Funny thing is I’m kind of jealous. Jealous in that you have house projects to work on and I really don’t. I love projects and finding new furniture and all that “fun” stuff. But you’ve got your bed or almost. Time to celebrate.
It’s funny to me that I don’t even care about a frame because I’ve always slept better with a mattress on the floor. I get what you mean. I have plenty to work on and trying to afford what I’d like to do without debt. What a juggle! Thank you, Barb. 🙂
I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT MOS OF THE TIME WHAT PEOPLE THINK OF SOMEONE OR THEIR SITUATION ISN’T TRUE. SAYING AND THINKING THOSE THOUGHTS DON’T MAKE THEM TRUE. SO, HAPPY FOR YOU. HAPPY, PEACEFUL NEW YEAR!
Yes, that’s just it, Robin. When healing from trauma and abuse NO ONE knows what’s going on. All that matters is that the journey is theirs and theirs alone to determine what is right for them. Back at ya! <3
Wow! You have had so much going on. I am so happy that you have a new mattress. I have recently decided that I deserve better than a 26 year old twin mattress. I am looking at full size bed options. I hope that your hand is better. The garage looks awesome. It is so exciting! It is wonderful to see Bald eagles. The population is growing beautifully. I hope it stays that way. The kids must have been so excited! You all deserved God’s sweet blessings this Christmas.🎄 I have been through it all with judgement from others. I am done with it for the most part. No one knows what our life has been like…I pray they never do. God knows and carries us through…that is all that matters. ♥️ I am praying that the New Year will be filled with peace and joyful moments throughout for all of us!
Yes! And me too, though it’s more than a mattress to me and I know you understand. I hope you find your perfect bed too!
We are bird lovers so it was a major treat to us and those nearby. Thank you for the well-wishes, Dale. There is no one I would wish this on and you are right… God knows and sees and hears. Prayers are felt and sent!
