whew! My new home remodel continues as I share a staircase update with you today. Who knew making a mess could be so fun?
ME!!
Yes, I am a hot mess in more ways than one. However, I’m in my zone.
That is until a guy knocked on my door in the middle of this and tells me he just backed into my son’s car. The same son who just got his license a week ago – not his fault. (more on that in my vlog below)

This is where my staircase update starts for this time around.
Doesn’t everyone have a missing ceiling with sheets hanging in their dining area?
This is the view from the other side in the family room.
I’m just sayin’ a prayer I don’t have to clean EVERY LIVING THING in my home when this is done. {{nervous laughter}}
When I was nearly done cutting the last bit of drywall and cement board, my oscillating tool DIES.
Of course it did. Who blames it?
Yes, I have repaired many of my tools and this one had power, the switch works, but the motor is shot.
Let’s have a moment of quiet for this tool that gave its life to my cause.
RIP – Ryobi Is Pooped
That was a beast of a job that is finally DONE.
WIRING MOVE
As you can see in my video below, I have wiring in the middle of these stud spaces that needs moving.
Plus, I show how I build up and hide the wires in the casing below. Isn’t that much better?
This is quite the laborious work because each space is different, needs to be leveled, and each piece cut and ripped to fit.
This above shot was taken in the later portion of the day. Just look at that sunlight pouring in down the stairs.
I sigh in awe.
For today’s purpose, I am finishing the interior of the staircase before I need to call it quits for a time.
Why?
Well… eep!.. my garage driveway is officially poured and I can begin to start moving the hot mess OUT OF MY HOUSE!!
Then comes the job of moving that leftover topsoil and gravel to my backyard that needs repair.
CASING THE JOINT
Finally, the interior of this staircase update is complete, yet raw. That is until I decide how to blend the two outer rooms with the different wood species in this space.
You’ve just gotta watch my vlog for more details as you’re missing half the content when you skip it.
Meanwhile, on the left side of the staircase, I remove the handrail and find this interesting wallpaper.
In order to keep my handrail snug to the studs, I route two of the uprights to fit the mounts. That way my rail mounts aren’t just hanging on the trim, and I don’t have to line up holes.
And my floofy supervisor approves (see her feet?).
For now, I wait for final inspection of my garage so I can get the go-ahead to proceed. Plus, I have to wait 10-14 days before I can drive on it.
But, ya know, I will be working my fanny off in there and most likely won’t have room for my car for a time.
And, because weather is changing, I’ll be pausing this interior remodel to tackle my outdoor stuff before it gets too hot.

gah! I have also had secondary issues with healing and I feel for you!! Ear infections are by far so painful that anything. I had them often as a child and sometimes in adulthood. Praying you get past this quickly. <3

Me too, Marie. It already feels like a load off my brain since the hard part is done.
Thankfully, it was only the taillight and that’s a simple enough repair, but it did damage the paint. He left his lights on so that’s why the drained battery. Gotta learn the hard way, I guess! 😀
I’d like to be a DIY vacation star at the moment. haha!

Amazing! I wouldn’t even have thought to take on such a project. Light is so important in a home. I am sure that you will be happy that you did all this work in the years to come. The driveway & garage look great!🌿 Your son must be so disappointed. I hope that situation works out well for him.
