Tornadic… is that a word? That describes what it’s like moving in to a new home.
Like something just picked up all your stuff and spread it EVERYWHERE.
While I hope you never experience a true tornado, I’m sure many of you can relate to this feeling, if not moving, then, at least raising children and even pets.
It’s finally moving in time, and I have the BEST HELPERS ever!!
Before I get started in on our latest chapter to the journey, I’m sharing a few details to give you a better picture.
BACKSTORY
A quick trip down memory lane so you can understand the why and how. For even more details see my Life Updates HERE.
When I purchased my previous home while pregnant with my second child of six, I did not intend to live there for long.
My heart ached to return to the forest and countryside.
Fast-forward twenty-two years, one-year post-divorce, a few years of no contact with narcissist parent and here we are.
After learning extreme amounts about myself and my forty-eight years of life, I learned I want LESS.
I no longer strive to people-please (at least not like I did before). At the same time, I realize I suffer from C-PTSD from abusive relationships.
My goal is to be a healthy person for, not only myself, but my neurodivergent children. (I, too, am considered neurodivergent because of the side effects of abuse I suffer from. Yes, still suffer from) I honestly don’t believe that many, if any, people are neurotypical.
With all the revelations, I start to let go.
A few years ago, I purged DEEP.
I got rid of anything and everything I never wanted to see again and that was truckloads.
It was FANTASTIC!
Then, there came the moving in.
I didn’t put anything into a box I didn’t want to see again.
I even had a HUGE garage sale with tons of freebies and sold even more after.
And yet, I still have what you’re witnessing today. ahem.
Can you relate?
TAKE IT OUT
As I mention in my previous posts (outside tour and inside tour), I am removing the brand-new carpet before we even move in.
The day immediately after signing closings (which was exactly one day and one year after my divorce hearing), we pull ALL the carpet OUT.
Watch the fun in action in my video below.
Why is it in every home I’ve ever lived in, I find hairpins when cleaning?
And these ladies worked on the steps like BEASTS. Thank you, girls!
My other’s daughter’s work pants I found in the bathroom show how much fun we had pulling out all the thousands of staples. {{bwahaha}}
The carpet was out by Saturday, then I paint the floors on Sunday. They will stay painted, until I get new flooring down. First things first.
And the cats both peed on the subfloor… where carpet once lay. I told ya – no carpet.
However, the new carpet owner is elated as he and his family are going through a tough time as well.
It’s moving in time.
LOAD IT UP
Next, it is time to take everything we boxed and loaded up in the moving truck. Loula is inspecting everything we’re loading and is my permanent shadow.
What a blessing it was that my realtor allows this truck usage for free, including a dolly and blankets. Amazing!
Over the next three days we make a dozen or so trips and are exhausted.
By the way, we made a point to acclimate our three pets into moving as best we could by taking time to introduce them over a couple weeks. Patience is key.
Ivan is so chill, Loula is adapting great, but Lily, my senior girl, is warming up slowly.
In the meantime, we busy about setting up furniture as best possible because in the next few days we head back to the previous home to give it a thorough cleaning for new owner.
Later that night, I couldn’t find Loula.
I peek inside the curtain sheets we hung up temporarily for my son’s room and…
What a sweetie.
FINISHING UP
Before we have to return the box truck, my son and I make a trip to the local box store to get what we need to wall in his bedroom.
Then, the first weekend my kids are with their dad, I spend Friday night with Ivan shimming the squeaky stairs. Do you see him?
See more of his crazy antics in the video below because the next morning after this I found the kitchen faucet running full blast. {{head smack}}
In addition, that weekend, I was able to unbox many things to, at least, set up this temporary spot until the garage is built soon.
There’s more to come, but we are all adjusting, enjoying, and celebrating this new adventure. Just keepin’ it real y’all.

You are a sweet soul, Rebecca. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to support me in my endeavor both in home and my work. I can’t thank you enough for the love!
I am so happy for you. It is exciting to be able to follow this new house transformation. I love your ideas! The children have grown up so much. What a blessing it is to have help. My last move was a nightmare. My two best friends helped me and it took a tremendous toll on all of us. Kyle and I had to work through PTSD afterward. It has been 10 years and we still have issues. The thought of moving again brings such anxiety. It is an absolute pleasure to share in your joy. I adore the picture of you and your young daughter sitting in the truck! She has such a beautiful smile.☺️ It is always fun to hear how the pets are doing!
Thank you so much, Dale. They are a huge help and we can relate to the stress. My body let me know pretty quickly that it had had enough and I had to step back. There’s no other way that to say anxiety aptly describes moving in any form. I’m glad to have you along for the ride! I just published the next update, so be sure to check it out.
