In any home, things wear out as I mention in my dishwasher removal post. However, little did I know that my gooseneck faucet would bite the dust. At least it lasted six more weeks while I prepare for this DIY granite composite sink install.
Loula agrees… it’s time for a new sink.
If you recall, I found the gorgeous sink at a local sale for $75. woot!
It is a Blanco SILGRANIT (granite composite sink) in truffle color that just happens to match my granite countertops perfectly. Since these sinks typically retail for several hundred dollars, I call that a win, don’t you? (read this sink review HERE)
I pull out my old sink – a double 6″ basin stainless steel gem that is scuffed beyond reason and ready for a new purpose.
As soon as I yank it, I remove the old caulk and clean up the surface for preparation for the new sink.
FITS LIKE A GLOVE
Not only does this DIY granite composite sink install slip right in, but this new faucet does too.
However, as I attach the faucet using the mounting nut that houses two screws, one of those ridiculous screws fell behind my cabinet backing. I mention more to the story in my video below.

I had to take that apart (and plan to remedy that mess in the future too)
What’s kinda “funny” is it was almost EXACTLY a year ago I replace the kitchen faucet in my old home as well.
Once the sink is in, I have to adjust the plumbing because my old sink was only 6″ deep while this one is 10″. Also, the drains on the old sink are center set, while this one has the drains near the back.
Honestly, it all went so smoothly until I need to thread the drain ring on and that was a BUGGER!
BRING ON THE DIRTY DISHES
Finally, after a day of hard work, running to the hardware store a few times, my DIY granite composite sink install is complete.
And ready for the onslaught of dirty dishes to come – that I welcome with a sigh.
I’ve always thought that having dirty laundry and dirty dishes are a sign my loved ones are around.
Though as long as I’m able, I’ll be washing dishes and laundry until the day I die. And hopefully, once my broken washer is replaced, I will no longer be washing that by hand.
Oh, and my printer died too. haha!

I’m with you on that, Robin. Although, I will say I had a window above my sink for 22 years at the old home, but… it only looked into my garage. So, as long as it gets a decent view, that’s my preference. This one looks at my neighbor’s hot mess, but at least there is sunshine.

Thanks! I really wanted brass and didn’t want to get another porcelain to maintain with kids and really didn’t want stainless steel. God knew exactly what is my heart’s desire.
I am always impressed with what you do and how yo do it. When I was young I knew how to do a lot but nothing compared to you. Did I miss your son’s bedroom getting done. I miss seeing the kids helping too. So weird a lot of us has seen them grow up.
