Ever dreamed of completing your own DIY drywall project?
Yeah, I go BIG or go home.
That’s just the way I am and love being unashamedly me.
As I begin this newest part of my bedroom addition adventure, I’m nervous.
Here’s what I’m facing on one side of my son’s room…
Call me crazy, but I plan to cut AND install the drywall from this overcrowded space. eep!
Okay, so before I jump in, let’s revisit where this all started:
And now the final frontier {{dramatic music plays}}.
WHERE TO BEGIN
First, let me just say that I am a planner.
I do NOT like things to go awry, but I don’t mind some changeups… if I know about them. {{wink}}
That’s in part due to my C-PTSD from narcissistic parental abuse. Okay… it’s totally because of that.
However, I typically slap on a smile and roll with the punches while my nervous system will be kicking my fanny for the next few days.
And I’m not talking about small changeups, necessarily. I’m talking like, “what in the world is going on?” stuff.
While I share with you the full story in my video below, do know that this is completely a norm for me, sadly.
And yet… I’m still here.
So… I’m skip-happy that this busy mama to six is able to pull this DIY drywall project off without a MAJOR hitch.
Don’t miss out on how this all came to fruition in the video above because I share a ridiculous story that would only happen to me.
Did I know I could do this?
YES.
Did I vacillate from freaking out to determined boss beforehand?
YES.
Did I quit.
NO.
And that’s the most important thing to me.
MISTAKES HAPPEN
What I learned from this whole DIY drywall adventure is that I totally give more mad props to those who do this as a profession.
Not only did I make mistakes, but I learned from them.
See the lefthand side of the door being closed in on the inside before the outside?
That’s called STOP when your brain is fried.
I knew that there was a great chance of accidentally flipping a cut. But thankfully, I am able to use it on the inside wall.
Again, take a gander at my late-day mistake at the light switch. I was so tired, wanted to be done with this wall and should have waited until the next day.
While my mistake was a very minor cut, still irritating when I was being so careful.

Additionally, while taking this on, there’s was a caveat I mention in my video above.
Meanwhile, I am still thankful all is moving in the right direction for my garage build.
Finally with city permits approved, this is what I witness today.
This two-man crew showed up before l left for groceries and got this much done by the time I return.
Before they start, I request that they set aside all their scrap lumber and supplies so I can make use of them.
Initially, the builder requested a 10-yard dumpster that would cost me over $300. Since I want to keep the scraps, they then said a 5-yard dumpster would suffice.
However, I was having trouble locating one and didn’t know when they would be building.
By the end of the day, here is the result of their hard work.
CLEANUP ON AISLE DRIVEWAY
I’m pleased with the progress, but a bit bummed that the crew refused to separate the wood from the trash for me. I just asked they set it to the side of the trash, not a hard ask.
Here’s what I actually left for trash after I sorted the minute they left (spent an hour in the rain) keeping anything I can use in the future.
A pallet with a few things and three trash bags full beyond.
This is a bit of what I saved from the “trash” (aka. #trashure).
Shingles and lumber I plan to use to help build a lean-to shed, and more. Even the tarp used to cover the new lumber serves me to keep this wood dry.
sigh…
Here’s to no waste, eh?!

The garage is looking real good! The scraps will sure come in handy. Great job with the drywall…that is one thing I could never do. I cannot hold my arms up for long without passing out. 🤷♀️ I can’t wait for more pictures! Take some time out for rest.😴

Yes, taking today to only do small things – hung my broom rack, installed a new light in my entry and now to insulate a window and hang my daughters’ light. haha. Yes! Just this morning, despite the 10-degrees and stinkin’ high winds, they came back to sheath and wrap it. Then onto door, windows, and siding next week! eep!

I have done a lot of dry-walling, and muddying. I actually enjoyed the muddying and became quite good at it. …of course that was 20 years ago, wouldn’t attempt it now.
Larissa, would like to throw this out to you…I am deaf, but have 2 cochlear implants. For me and others who might be hearing impaired, I would ask if it would be easy for you to add a cc (closed caption) feature to all your videos and Facebook posts? Most people I follow do have this feature, but I have no idea how they accomplish that. Thank you…just a suggestion.
Kudos to you! I love that you have taken on that task. I can’t say the mudding part is my favorite, but it definitely is fun to use the trowel and “create”. And I like it better than the sanding… grrr. 😀
You know what, I appreciate you asking. I come from a family with deaf members, and I’ve tried to get the software to work so many times and need to dig deeper on how to get it to work. I hope to figure it out as it’s frustrating that my editing/content should be for all. My Facebook posts already have the CC added by my uploads but when I share others’ videos, that I can’t control. 🙂
