It’s finally time for this DIY bedroom reveal!
Ever since moving in I’ve been working on this bedroom for my youngest son.
Can you believe this is the starting point?
It’s been quite a learning experience that I won’t trade.
And I can say the room is done.
For fun, here are the process posts leading up today’s reveal:

However, before I show you the final details, I want to share updates that I’m working on since my last post on the drywall HERE.
Here are the louver doors I found and built the closet to fit.
It’s time to modernize these a bit as well as show you what’s been going on outside for my garage build.
As you can see, two of my fur-family are already scoping out the space and that’s why I have boards up to block the 4″ gap at the bottom of the doors until concrete is poured.
What is more, my skip-happy heart is delighted to be able to be out here to work instead of making a mess in my home.
I’m using panel of luan cut to fit over the space and simply nailing on. I could have went behind the openings and then used trim to fill the gap, but I want it to be easy to clean, and this makes more sense. But at least there are options if you decide to do something similar.
In my vlog below, you can see how I did this process to say GOODBYE to dusting or painting those awful louvers.
And HELLO to a modern look.

Oh, and no worries. As I mention in my vlog, I have already found a home for those louver slats.
No waste around here!

But before I get to that, check out what I built for the inside storage.
Last, I am able to update the closet doors and finish them off with custom painting these knobs I have on hand from this free dresser upcycle.
And that’s the final step in getting my other closet empty of his “stuff” so I can store other things in there now. woot again!

Here is the DIY bedroom reveal in the final step of completion.
HUGE SIGH OF RELIEF.
The paneling, closet, and walls are complete and I’m not going to paint in here ANYMORE. haha.
My guy is happy to have his own space (and me out of it) as well as less “stuff” to fuss with for sanity’s sake.
His request is plenty of open wall space and no dressers or anything that he knew he would fill unnecessarily with junk.
This mama is BEYOND happy to oblige. Also proud to say he chose this last year to give up his smartphone for a flip phone. He sees the addiction they cause and wants to break the cycle.
Likewise, he has space to celebrate his favorite sport he plays very well… tennis.
It’s funny because just a year ago, I redid his room for him in our previous home with a tennis theme – see HERE.

Totally fantastic! What you did with the louver doors is brilliant. They look great. Your son must be thrilled. I think that his choice to give up the smart phone is wise. A flip phone is all that is needed. The distraction brought about by phones does create addictions…it is wonderful that he acknowledges this. In my humble opinion, we need to step back to simpler times. Kids need to be reading and playing, using their imaginations, and spending time in nature. You are such a great mom and that is reflected in your children. ♥️
