There are highs and low in any life journey – especially in home remodeling, Am I right? You know it. tsk. However, this dishwasher removal fiasco has some fun twists and turns and you’re invited.
Here’s what has been staring at me the last few weeks.

I’ve put it back together a few times and I’m DONE.

ANSWERED UNSPOKEN HEART’S DESIRE
You’re looking at a brand-new Blanco granite composite sink I just scored for $75. These retail for near $700.
AND…
Here’s the answer to my heart’s desire. While I adored my HUGE and DEEP cast iron enamel sink in my previous home (I found that for $150!), I wanted something easier to deal with for now.
It’s even 10″ deep – as I hoped.
It’s going to go well with a brushed brass faucet I’ve been wanting – as I hoped.
Also, it matches my existing granite countertops perfectly!
God does care about the “little” things.
That’s when I decide to finally tackle this dishwasher removal project.
DISHWASHER WOES
It’s simple.
You just unplug the thing, disconnect the drain and water line, and DONE.

Initially, I want to leave the dishwasher in place, so it didn’t take up precious floor space while I find it a new home.
That sounds good and all, but I should have just yanked it.
By leaving it there, I kept making novice mistakes, though, I will admit I’ve had much on my plate as I mention in my video above. BE sure to watch it as I share more of the story that’s not in written form.
There’s nothing wrong with the dishwasher, I just don’t use them.
I prefer handwashing and making sure my dishes are clean and spending time just being.
In order to remove the dishwasher, I need to disconnect it from the disposal.
DISPOSING
Not only is there no easy fix available in a store to cap off a disposal, but also many people looking at me in disbelief I want to remove my dishwasher.
ha – yup.
So, I find my own way using a rubber furniture foot and a basic clamp.
It works like a charm! (see video for installation and more details)
However, see that water beaded up on there?
ahem.
That is because I messed up. {{head smack}}
Let’s just say my floor and INSIDE of my cabinets got a good, thorough, spray down.
BUT… I got it done and then more fun. (again… check the video)
Needless to say, I gave away the perfectly fine dishwasher, and someone is skip-happy. It’s a win-win!

There’s so many random things going on aside from this dishwasher removal.
I’m updating outlets, switches, rebuilding furniture for other rooms, having more garage inspections and tradesfolk here.
What is more, I always like taking time to show my kids how to do this basic DIY stuff. When I put in my son’s bedroom door, I bought enough door handles to replace the existing knobs.
With that, I let each kiddo learn how to remove and install one on their own.
And my sidekick made sure I did everything by the book.
And don’t forget this cutie onlooker sittin’ snug as a bug in a rug.
Last, but not least, I said goodbye to a dozen or so more boxes as unpacking continues as I create spaces and build more storage.

I’m definitely team dishwasher. And you’re not alone when fiascos happen. Mine was a flat tire. Doesn’t seem like much except I had another flat tire two weeks ago. My doctor wants me to take walks. Fine. I can do that. Except first it’s knee pain, then a tweaked back and finally something with my ankle. Not all at once but one after another. And since I live in the Pittsburgh area we too have the cold and the snow so I understand the cabin fever! But—our house is warm, the pantry is full (without panic shopping) and we have plenty of toilet paper! Plus my ankle feels better today. God is good!

Is there nothing you can’t do? 🤣 Your ability to tackle and subdue a project is so inspiring!!! I know it’s not always fun, but your persistence and perseverance is an amazing example for us all!!!! I’m looking forward to seeing what you put in the dishwashers place and seeing that lovely new sink installed. I’m camp dishwasher so I’m not going to lie, I gasped a little, but respect your choice. It’s all I’ve ever done, Marie. I took out the dishwasher in the last place and have done very much the same thing (hence why I was annoyed I messed up a bit). But… laughing the whole time. My kids couldn’t believe the river in the kitchen while I’m yelling and laughing trying to put the hose back on. Got a clean floor out of it! 😀 Thanks for joining my adventures!
