It’s the light at the end of the tunnel for this DIY bedroom update. woot!

Ladies and gents, I’ve been hard-core working feverishly since we moved in two months ago and I can see the fruits of my labor. You can see the true “before” HERE.

My son has had a “space” since the first weekend we moved in when we framed in the room.

After that:

• DIY bedroom lighting
• DIY closet build
• Drywall done DIY style
• and so much more

Now, I’m ready to start putting the finishing touches on this space.

Will I ever do this AGAIN?

Maybe.

I’ve certainly learned oodles and have been getting a built-in workout as well. whew.

But one this is for sure… I DO NOT LIKE SANDING DRYWALL.

There.

I said it.

However, I can handle cutting, joining, mudding and such.

Mad respect to someone who does this for a living. Legit chaos and dust EVERYWHERE.

I knew it would be like that in my entire home because I’ve done projects like this before.

And I still hate it.

But… it’s done and I can move on.

DUST AND MORE DUST

Even when covering all the things and shutting the door, it still was airborne enough it covered the family room, kitchen, and entry.

Thankfully, I don’t have forced-air heat as that’s immensely worse.

I muster up my remnant wood, new wood, and my busted finger, I’m ready to finish this bedroom update.

Then, as soon as the dust settles, I jump right in to caulk the trim and prep to prime.

What you see in my video vlog below is that I have to decide whether or not to keep the wood paneling stained on the headboard wall.

In order to figure out if the tannins and water stains will penetrate the stain, I use the primer I have on hand and instantly I see this… (like I expected).

See how the roller looks darker than the primer in the pan?

womp, womp.

That means I have my work cut out for me just like when I painted the paneling in my previous home dining room and family room FOUR TIMES.

If you’ve never painted this type of tongue-and-groove pine paneling, you’re in for a real DIY job. When you normally paint a wall, you cut in and roll.

However, with this grooved surface, you can roll and then cut in, and in, and in, and IN.

What you see here is the primer first coat and that requires my respirator for that nasty stuff.

MY REMINDER

AGAIN, my reminder to myself that I do not want to do this again when I finish the entry remodel coming next.

I mention in my video what primers I try and use and why I didn’t spray the room instead of hand-painting.

Likewise, I have to say that being in all this WHITE makes my vertigo so bad. I spent the whole time spinning and that made the job not so fun.

After that, I apply two coats of paint to the ceiling, walls, and closet. The ceiling is basic white in eggshell finish, while I use a jasmine flower white (a slight creamy white) on the walls.

For the trim, I pick this Otter Tail also in an eggshell finish.

ALMOST FINISHING

Finally, after four straight days of caulking, spackling, painting and trim, the bedroom update has the paint complete until I build the closet storage.

Oh, and nevermind the paint speckled floor and drywall glitter as the paint is still curing. ahem.

And yes, I still have plenty to do as I wait for the door handle to arrive, replace the outlets, and add shelving and decor.

I’m a one-woman team that also homeschools her children! tsk. {{wink, wink}}

It’s crazy that I can step back and say, “I did that.”

Yes, I’ve created, built, sewn, cooked so many things in my lifetime. But… to not quit even when I second-guess myself is a gift. Have you felt similar in your life?
